What path did you follow before ending up with your current company?

I started off as a foreman in Port Elizabeth (VAC work), I moved over to the UAE with Alec through their graduate program early 2016 where I was a site engineer. I soon after started to work in the fit-out side of the business and I have been very lucky to work on projects such as The Kempinski Hotel and W Hotel.

What is your current position and what does the role entail?

Construction Manger (Fit-out).

What advice would you give a current construction management student?

  • Work for a main contractor so you can learn all trades
  • MEP is the most important trade in construction
  • Learn how to plan activities in advance 
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help (everyone had to start somewhere)
  • Learn how to mitigate delays onsite and delegate tasks
  • Good relations in this filed can open doors for you in the future (network)

What was your favourite module?

Hard to say, I enjoyed all my hons year subjects.

Who was your favourite lecturer?

Chris, John and Brink were my favourites

What are your plans for the next 5 to 10 years?

Hopefully I will be in a first world country (Europe of NZ) with my own 3D printing company.
