What is your current position and what does the role entail?
As an Assistant Lecturer, I learned the importance of patience. Working honestly with both students and colleagues is essential. Paying attention to detail is key, as producing a group of students who truly understand the material you teach is crucial; if they do not grasp the concepts, it could reflect poorly on you later. Finding effective strategies to engage students and keep them interested in learning during this ‘TikTok’ era has been a significant challenge that I have had to address.
What advice would you give a current construction management student?
Establish a solid foundation and perform your work well, as it will greatly benefit you in the industry. Work effectively with others while navigating challenges with emotional intelligence.
What was your favourite module?
Construction Management and Health and Safety
Who was your favourite lecturer?
Prof John Smallwood
What are your plans for the next 5 to 10 years?
I will complete my PhD studies within five years and publish significant papers that will benefit the South African construction industry and beyond. Upon completion of my PhD studies, I aspire to leverage my academic expertise and industry experience to establish a specialised consultancy business within the next 5 to 10 years.
